Established in 1995 as a battery manufacturer, BYD is a short form for "Build Your Dreams." The business entered the EV market in 2003 with the introduction of its first electric bus. The company quickly expanded into other markets, such as solar panels and mobile phones. Since that time, BYD has grown to be a significant force in the EV market, offering a variety of electric vehicles, including cars, trucks, and buses.
By reaching a total production of 3 million New Energy Vehicles in November 2022, BYD formally announced the launch of two new EV brands in the 1st quarter of 2023. The new brand will be a supplement to Yangwang, a premium brand that was previously announced to debut in the first quarter of 2023. BYD is selling different series of its vehicle including its best selling models like Qin Plus & Song Plus, ocean series BYD Dolphin & BYD seal, and impressive models like BYD han & BYD tang , also a new model Atto 3 all over the world .
This Chinese automaker already operates plants in a lot different nations beside china, including 1 in Canada, 3 in Brazil and already purchased around 900 acres of land in Thailand to establish a new factory, production might start from the year 2024. Its market share is greatest in China and it is the world's second-largest producer of fully electric vehicles overall, behind Tesla. If we also calculate hybrids then BYD comes first. BYD is also planning a great move to start factories in Europe and The decision to establish factories in Europe is a part of BYD's overall plan to dominate the global electric vehicle market.
Regarding the development of electric vehicles, BYD has big plans. With a target of releasing fully autonomous vehicles by 2025, the company wants to become a leader in the development of autonomous driving technology. With a focus on advancing battery technology and enhancing the performance and range of its vehicles, BYD is also spending a lot of money on research and development. The business also has an electric battery division called Fin Dreams Battery, which is the third-largest producer of electric vehicle batteries in the world with a 12% market share in the first half of 2022 and a primary focus on lithium iron phosphate batteries.
BYD also started mass producing one of their greatest battery breakthrough “ blade battery” from the year 2020,since then it has become a great hit ,The Blade Battery from BYD is a lithium-ion battery crafted for reliability and security. The positive and negative electrodes are physically separated by a thin blade, preventing thermal runaway and the possibility of fire or explosion. The Blade Battery is also more energy dense, making it suitable for use in electric vehicles and other applications where space is at a premium. BYD has added extra safety precautions to its manufacturing process, such as non-flammable electrolytes and a unique safety coating on the electrodes.
Rumors are circulating in China that BYD plans to begin manufacturing sodium-ion batteries in larger quantities for use in electric vehicles. According to local media, BYD intends to start producing them in the second quarter of 2023 and use them initially in some variations of the Qin EV, Dolphin, and the new Seagull . Since several months, the price of lithium has been rising steadily; however, if they begin producing sodium batteries in larger quantities, the price of lithium may begin to decline or at least not rise as much. Since sodium is one of the most abundant materials on earth and is readily available, sodium ion technology has a bright future. However, mass producing this type of battery for an electric vehicle is quite difficult because it can be quite heavy. Fortunately, we still have until the second quarter of 2023 to figure it out because many automakers have committed to using this technology in their upcoming EVs.
